Field Trip October 30 – Icons & Relics

On Monday, October 30 our Photo Club will be hosting members of the Comox Valley Photographic Society, on a day-long field trip here on Gabriola Island.

The morning’s theme will be “Gabriola Icons”, in which we’ll be visiting several much-loved, photogenic places on our island.

The afternoon’s theme is “Rusty Relics” – back by popular demand following our field trip earlier this month. This will be a good opportunity for those Gabriola club members who missed the earlier field trip to focus their creative efforts on some of our island’s old and abandoned – but ever so visually interesting – vehicles.

In between the two sessions we’ll be making a stop for lunch at a local eatery.

If you’d like to join in, please email us in advance for details/

A Walk in the Woods – on now, until November 30

As an ongoing project, Gabriola Photography Club curates the art display space downstairs at the Gabriola Medical Clinic on Church Street, Gabriola Island. Club members take turns having solo exhibitions or taking part in group exhibitions.

A new exhibit by landscape and wildlife photographer and visual artist, Corinne Flaws, explores the beauty of nature through light, textures and colours.

Corinne creates art with her camera using intentional camera movement, multiple exposures and other techniques. This show includes some of her favorite recent photographs and “art-ographs”, printed on wood to enhance the feeling of being immersed in nature.

The show runs until November 30, downstairs at the Gabriola Medical Centre.

October 11th Field Trip: Rusty Relics

Gabriola Photography Club’s next field trip is on Wednesday afternoon, October 11. We’ll be focusing our lenses on “Rusty Relics” – some of Gabriola’s old and abandoned vehicles.

Gather – rain or shine – at 1 pm in the Agi Hall parking lot on South Road, Gabriola Island. Please park in the north lot (the end closest to the ferry terminal). From there, we’ll drive and/or carpool to a number of sites, ending back in the Village.

If you plan to participate please email us ahead of time to let us know, so that we can contact you in the event of any last-minute changes.
