2023 Club Schedule

Club meetings are on the first and third Wednesday of each month (other than July and August), at 10 am, via Zoom – the link will be emailed to all paid-up club members a few days before each meeting. Please let us know if you’d like to gather with others at a central location on Gabriola, to join our zooming members in a hybrid meeting. To enable this, we need a minimal number of members wishing to attend in-person.

  • Feb. 1: Speaker (Club member) Laurie MacBride, “Journey to the Great Bear Sea”
  • Feb. 15: Guest Speaker Ursula Abresch, “Intentional Camera Movement”

  • Mar. 1: Report & follow-up discussion on our club’s fall 2022 survey / Photo sharing: “Cold”.
  • March 15: Guest Speaker J.P. Stones, “Storytelling for Photographers”


  • May 3: Photo sharing – your choice of “A photo (or series) that tells a story” OR “Abandoned / forgotten”
  • May 17: Guest Speaker Jim Zuckerman regrets he has had to cancel due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict on his end. So instead, we’ll have several short presentations on various topics of interest, and sharing some of our members’ favourite photos from the past few months.

  • Sunday, June 4: Spring Show & Sale, 12 noon to 4 pm, Rollo Centre (Gabriola)
  • June 7: Gabriola Land & Trails Trust member Lou Skinner will give a presentation on the iNaturalist app and how Gabriola photographers can get involved. As well, we’ll be sharing our “What is this?” theme assignment photos.
  • June 21: Photo sharing – “Thinking in Threes”. Last meeting before summer break.

Our twice-monthly meetings resume in September after our summer break. Watch this page for field trips and other updates over the summer.

  • October 4: Presentation by (Club member) Corinne Flaws, “Utah Rocks!”
  • Wed. October 11: Club field trip, “Rusty Relics”. Here’s all the info. Please email us in advance if you plan to attend, in case we need to contact you re: any last-minute changes.
  • October 18: Photo sharing – “Gabriola Island Icons”
  • Mon. Oct. 30: Club field trip on Gabriola, with members of the Comox Valley Photographic Society joining us. Topics will be “Gabriola Icons” in the morning, and (back by popular demand) “Rusty Relics” in the afternoon, with a stop for lunch in-between. Please email us in advance for details if you’d like to attend.

  • November 1: Guest speaker Bob Simpson, Nanaimo-based diver and photographer, on “Underwater Photography”. Bob will discuss his experiences photographing marine life in the Salish Sea, share some of his great images, talk about his equipment and give us a few hints on getting starting with underwater photography.
  • Tues. Nov. 7: Harbour City Photography Club invites our members to an online presentation by Sarah Marino, “Black & White: Bold Interpretation of Nature”. Get info and register here.
  • November 15: “Rusty Relics Roundup” – photo sharing from our two fall field trips, in which we focused our lenses and creativity on some of Gabriola’s old and abandoned vehicles.
  • Sunday, November 26, 12 noon to 4 pm, Fall Show & Sale, Rollo Centre (Gabriola)

  • December 6: Photo sharing: “Water World” , plus a presentation by Corinne Flaws on her recent adventures in Ocean Photography on the Oregon coast.
  • December 20: Seasonal Social plus Photo sharing – “In the Kitchen” OR “Open Topic” (your choice)
