Fall Photo Show Roundup

Gabriola Photography Club’s Fall 2023 Photo Show was a great success, with good participation from Club members, a steady stream of people attending throughout the afternoon, and plenty of positive feedback. Thanks to everyone who showed prints, cards etc., contributed auction items and other donations, helped on show day or in any other way to make this an excellent Club event – and a big thank you to all of the Gabriola public who attended. Watch for news of our Spring 2024 show!

This fun, free event takes place on Gabriola Island at the Rollo Centre (685 North Rd), from 12:00 to 4:00 pm (one afternoon only). You’ll find a plethora of beautiful framed and mounted prints, darkroom-style print displays, gorgeous greeting cards, creative calendars, matted prints, a DIY card tree, a silent auction and more!

The Show is also a good opportunity to meet some of the people involved in the Gabriola Photography Club and learn more about our group, which welcomes new members.

2023 Spring Show: A Journey with Nature

Gabriola Photography Club members present: A Journey with Nature, our 2023 Spring Show & Sale.

The popular annual event will be held on Sunday, June 4 at the Rollo Centre (North Rd., Gabriola Island), and will run from 12 noon to 4 pm.

As well as walls of beautiful prints, you’ll find greeting cards, books and many more photographic items created by participating Club members.

The show will also feature a silent auction of prints donated by Club members to aid in the group’s fundraising efforts.

Admission is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted to help offset show expenses and support the Club’s ongoing activities.

A Photo Journey (online)

The Toronto Camera Club has invited members of other CAPA groups, including Gabriola Photography Club, to enjoy “A Photo Journey”, their club’s annual public presentation and fundraiser. While the live version of the event takes place in Toronto, this year the club is also offering a virtual version, so photographers everywhere can enjoy it a few days later, online.

Five audio-visual presentations were created for the event by some of the Toronto club’s most talented, award-winning photographers. The three feature shows include an unforgettable wildlife safari in Kenya, an adventurous expedition to the Antarctic, and breathtaking underwater images from locations across the globe. In addition, this event will present two essays highlighting the boundlessness of creativity in photography.

A ticket to the event costs $15 and in the case of online tickets, gives you a 48-hour window to watch the presentations, on April 29 and 30.

Here’s where you’ll find all the info and how to get a ticket.

Earth Day 2023 on Gabriola

Earth Day celebrations will begin a day early on Gabriola this year – on Friday, April 21 – so that our local school children can participate. The Friday Earth Day events take place at the Commons.

Gabriola Photography Club will have a view-only booth (no sales) – a chance for members to display some of our recent photographic efforts. We’ll also be handing out flyers inviting others to join our club as new members. Please stop by to say hello if you’re in the Village.

If you’re a club member – or thinking about joining our club – and you’d like to help out at our booth, please let Sharron know.

The day’s schedule is as follows:

  • 10am – 11am – Set Up
  • 11am – 1:45pm – Workshops and Outreach
  • 12:45 – 1:20pm – Earth Day Parade (led by Gabriola Elementary School) – everyone is invited to join the parade
  • 1:20pm – 2:00pm – The Kerplunks! Earth-loving music for all ages!
